Giants HC responds to Baker Mayfield’s Daniel Jones criticism

Baker Mayfield isn’t a fan of the New York Giants’ decision to select former Duke quarterback Daniel Jones No. 6 overall this past April.

During an interview with GQ magazine, Mayfield said the selection “blows my mind” while opining that the Giants were overthinking the pick.

Of course, Giants head coach Pat Shurmur, like everyone else around the NFL, has heard about these comments. On Tuesday he was asked to respond, and he did.

The Giants have been pushing back against the notion they overdrafted Jones since the moment they made the pick back in late-April. Their own fans, along with most in the media, have expressed sentiments similar to what Mayfield said.

So far, the rookie has impressed this preseason, to be sure.

Yet if the Giants have their druthers, Jones won’t play a single snap in 2019. So we’ll all have to wait a while to see if the Duke product is a bust, or if he’s set to make us look bad for a very long time.
