New York Giants wide receiver Golden Tate has been suspended four games by the NFL for violating its policy on performance enhancing drugs.
In reporting the news Saturday morning, ESPN’s Adam Schefter noted that Tate plans on appealing the suspension and believes he has a good chance of getting it overturned.
Tate himself took to social media a short while later to explain things away.
As you can see, Tate is blaming the failed test on a substance prescribed to him by a health official. He then went through all of the necessary steps after realizing it was on the NFL’s banned substance list.
Whether this means Tate will win on appeal remains to be seen. But it does explain things.
Tate, 30, signed a four-year, $37.5 million contract with New York in free agency. He’s expected to take over for Odell Beckham Jr. as the Giants’ top receiver.
