Giants’ Eli Apple fined for violating NFL’s Twitter policy

New York Giants cornerback Eli Apple

New York Giants cornerback Eli Apple was inactive for his team’s Week 14 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. But he is being disciplined for actions during the game.

ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reported that Apple “was fined an undisclosed amount by the New York Giants for tweeting on the sideline during Sunday’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys, a source told ESPN on Thursday.”

Tweeting on the sidelines is against NFL rules. Apple’s case was not helped by what he was tweeting, either.

“Frustrated with the situation, he was tweeting on the sideline during the game, including one that said he was healthy. He was on the Giants’ injury report last week with hip and back injuries,” per Raanan Apple, 22, also retweeted an Ohio State website “Eleven Warriors” after it posted about the Cowboys’ Rod Smith icing the Giants with an 81-yard touchdown reception. Apple and Smith were teammates at Ohio State, but Rodgers-Cromartie admitted earlier this week that tweet wasn’t a good idea.”

Certainly, this is doing nothing quell the idea that the Giants are one of the league’s more troubled franchises. Apple has also recently engaged in a recent minor war of words with defensive backfield mate Landon Collins.

Obviously, this isn’t the kind of news that New York wants to be making as it winds down what’s been a disastrous season.
