Georgia star tight end Brock Bowers sustained an injury to his lower left leg during the second quarter of Saturday’s game versus Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tenn.
Bowers was injured on a designed run after his leg was twisted awkwardly on a tackle by Vanderbilt safety Savion Riley. He limped off the field and into the medical tent.
Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart briefly spoke to Bowers shortly after the latter was injured on the field.
“He was good. He was in good spirits,” Smart told CBS Sports of his conversation with Bowers. “He’s got a little bit of an ankle sprain at the bottom part of his foot, but he thinks he’ll be fine. They’re gonna go X-ray it and check it out.”
The Mackey Award winner as the nation’s top end last season, Bowers had four catches for 22 yards and two rushes for 11 yards prior to leaving the game. He entered the day with 37 catches for a team-leading 545 yards and four touchdowns.
