Georgia DT Trenton Thompson leaves team due to ‘significant medical issue’

Dealing with what was called a “significant medical issue” University of Georgia defensive tackle Trenton Thompson left school for the spring semester.

Thompson’s specific medical condition is unknown. The incident that triggered his leaving the university reportedly came from a poor reaction to medicine.

“The school said in a statement that Thompson had “an adverse reaction to medications prescribed specifically for his medical condition” when he was found walking on a campus road by University of Georgia police at 1:14 a.m. Thursday,” a report read Thursday (h/t ESPN). “Police called for medical assistance, and Thompson was taken to Athens Regional Medical Center.”

Thompson was one of the Bulldogs best players in 2016. He recorded 64 total tackles, 9.5 tackles for a loss, and five sacks. Three of those sacks came in Georgia’s 31-23 victory over TCU in the Liberty Bowl, a performance which earned him the game’s MVP.
