Even though teams are close to reporting for spring training, there are still several big-name players waiting to be signed in MLB free agency. Some might even include Trevor Bauer among that group, which also includes Blake Snell, Jordan Montgomery, and several others.

Yet Bauer, a former Cy Young winner, hasn’t pitched in MLB for two full seasons since being released by the Los Angeles Dodgers. This led Bauer to take his talents overseas, where he became an All-Star pitcher in Nippon Professional Baseball, the highest level of competition in Japan. While MLB teams seemingly remain uninterested in signing Bauer to a contract ever since he faced assault allegations, he hasn’t given up hope.

Now Trevor Bauer is in the news again, thanks to Gary Sheffield Jr. making a public plea for the former All-Star’s return to MLB on social media. Then, Bauer saw the post and chimed in with his own thoughts, where he notes his willingness to play for the league minimum.

Bauer also said he’d “love to play” for the Padres. This is only notable because he was previously accused of assaulting a woman in San Diego, which led to his departure from MLB.

With a career ERA of 3.79, and still just 33, from an analytical standpoint, Bauer figures to have several years left on his right arm. Whether a team is willing to give him another chance remains to be seen, but he’s clearly eager to pitch again.
