Former Iona guard Daniss Jenkins is rejoining coach Rick Pitino and transferring to St. John’s.
The Red Storm confirmed the signing of the 6-foot-4 graduate transfer on Friday.
“Daniss Jenkins is a lightning-quick guard who is a tremendous leader on and off the court,” Pitino said. “He is someone we will rely on heavily to lead us into next season.”
Jenkins started all 35 games for Pitino’s Gaels in 2022-23, helping the team sweep the MAAC regular season and conference tournament titles. Iona lost to eventual champion UConn in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Jenkins averaged 15.6 points, 4.9 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 1.4 steals and shot 36.1 percent from 3-point range in 2022-23.
He is joining his fourth program, including Iona and prior stops at the University of Pacific (2019-21) and a JUCO season at Odessa College in 2021-22.
It’s the first signing for Pitino, 70, since St. John’s hired the Hall of Famer on March 20. The Red Storm are coming off an 18-15 season (7-13 Big East) under former coach Mike Anderson.
