Former Orlando Magic first-round pick and Texas-San Antonio head coach Brooks Thompson passed away at the age of 45 on Thursday after complications stemming from organ failure.

UTSA confirmed Thompson’s passing on Friday.

“The UTSA family is very saddened to learn that Brooks Thompson passed away on Thursday,” athletic director Lynn Hickey said in a statement, via ESPN. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Michelle, his daughters, Ryan Michelle, Brooke and Addison, and the rest of his family in this difficult time.”

Thompson was the 27th overall pick of the Magic back in 1994. Though, he played sparingly in parts of four seasons with five different teams, averaging 4.5 points per game during his career.

The Magic released this following news of Thompson’s untimely passing.

Thompson would eventually turn to the bench, coaching UTSA for 10 seasons up until his firing this past march.

He helped lead the Roadrunners to an NCAA Tournament bid and win over Alabama State in the first round back in 2011.
