Johnson, a 6-foot-5 sophomore, announced he was entering the transfer portal on Dec. 7, about a week after the Tigers hired former Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly to replace Ed Orgeron in Baton Rouge.
Johnson threw for 2,815 yards, 27 touchdowns and six interceptions this season, helping LSU to a 6-6 record and a berth in the Texas Bowl.
Max and Jake are the sons of former NFL quarterback Brad Johnson, a Super Bowl winner with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after the 2002 season.
Texas A&M quarterback Zach Calzada is in the transfer portal. He passed for 2,185 yards, 17 touchdowns and 9 interceptions in 12 games this season for the No. 23 Aggies (8-4), who will meet No. 20 Wake Forest in the Gator Bowl on Dec. 31.
Max Johnson’s competition in College Station includes Haynes King, a freshman who started the 2021 season opener, but suffered a season-ending foot injury on Sept. 11.
This week the Aggies also signed Connor Weigman, the No. 2-ranked quarterback in the Class of 2022 by the 247 Sports composite.
