Former draft bust Trent Richardson says NFL teams are interested

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

Former Cleveland Browns No. 3 overall pick Trent Richardson has found odd jobs in other professional sports leagues since bombing out in the NFL.

He just recently played for the Birmingham Iron of the now-defunct AAF. Richardson, 29, has also drawn interest from the start-up XFL with that league set to begin next spring.

But according to the former Alabama standout, he’s also receiving interest from NFL teams.

“A lot of people have been calling me. The XFL has been calling me. The NFL has been calling me,” Richardson said, via the official XFL website. “The opportunity is there and if the NFL doesn’t come through, then definitely (I’d pursue XFL).”

Why any NFL team would be interested in a 29-year-old back who has not suited up in a regular-season game since 2014 remains to be seen.

Richardon was last with the Baltimore Ravens during the 2016 offseason before being released that August. The veteran back averaged 3.3 yards per rush in three NFL seasons spanning action with the Browns and Colts.
