As greater uncertainty hangs over the 2020 college football season, the COVID-19 pandemic has led to another game being canceled this fall. Fordham University announced it is canceled its football game against Hawaii at Aloha Stadium.
Fordham cancels football game against Hawaii due to COVID-19 pandemic
Fordham’s athletic department announced on Monday that it is canceling its game against the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors. The matchup was scheduled to take place on Sept. 12 at Aloha Stadium.
It was set to be the third game on the Rams’ 2020 football schedule and their first road test of the season. While the team would have had a bye week after the game in Hawaii, travel restrictions and risks from the coronavirus forced the school to take the game off its schedule.
Even more concerning, Fordham is considering postponing its entire football season until the spring. While there has been some discussion across Power 5 schools about moving the 2020 season to the spring semester, every major university is still planning to play this fall.
Fordham’s decision comes just days after the Dayton Flyers canceled their season-opening game against Southeast Missouri State due to the pandemic. A few weeks prior, the Southern Heritage Classic between Jackson State and Tennessee State was canceled due to concerns for the pandemic.
