Kathryn Sandercock fired fire scoreless innings to lead No. 3 Florida State to an 8-0, six-inning rout of No. 6 Oklahoma State on Thursday in first-round action at the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City.

The game ended due to the mercy rule when the Seminoles’ Jahni Kerr hit a single that produced an eight-run lead.

Sandercock yielded four hits and two walks while striking out four. Mack Leonard handled the final inning to complete a four-hit shutout.

Michaela Edenfield opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the first inning, and Kaley Mudge blasted a three-run shot as part of the Seminoles’ four-run fifth.

Mudge was the only player on either team to collect two hits.

Cowgirls starter Kelly Maxwell lasted only two innings, though the lone hit she allowed was Edenfield’s homer. She gave up two runs and two walks while striking out three.

Oklahoma State drops into an elimination game against either No. 7 Washington or No. 15 Utah. The Huskies and Utes had their scheduled opener postponed Thursday night because the Florida State-Oklahoma State game experienced weather delays that pushed the slate back too far.

Utah and Washington will meet at 1 p.m. EDT on Friday, with the loser having to come back at 9:30 p.m. EDT on Friday to face Oklahoma State.

Florida State’s next game will be on Saturday against the Utah-Washington winner.
