Florida International TE out for season after girlfriend douses him with boiling water

This is just painful to think about. Florida Interntional tight end Jonnu Smith is out for the remainder of the season after he was involved in a domestic spat with his girlfriend on Halloween.

The details of the spat are sure to make readers cringe.

Smith, apparently involved in a confrontation with his girlfriend, suffered serious burns to his face and other parts of his upper body after she doused him with boiling water.

From the Miami Herald:

“The two argued through the day over the attention Smith was paying her and their relationship. While in Smith’s dorm room and “feeling extremely emotional and stressed,” she told police, she boiled a pot of water. Then, she walked over to Smith and poured it on him.”

Smith’s girlfriend, Mary Gaspar, has been charged with aggravated battery. What makes this even more devastating is that she’s five months pregnant with Smith’s child.

Smith reportedly suffered severe burns to his head, neck, back, shoulder and arm.

A senior, this means that Smith has played his last game for Florida International. The tight end had recorded 39 receptions for 441 yards and three touchdowns at the time of the incident. He’s considered a mid-to-late round prospect in the 2017 NFL Draft.
