If the reality that the Denver Broncos quarterback situation is far from ideal has not hit home yet, it should with this interesting turn of events.
Denver is taking a rather unorthodox approach when it comes to determining who its starting quarterback is going to be.
The team’s first preseason game, next Thursday against the Chicago Bears, will have a major impact on who ends up starting under center come Week 1 of the regular season.
Whoever looks better between the likes of Mark Sanchez, Trevor Siemian and rookie Paxton Lynch will have the upper hand following that game.
“I want to get them out there, I’m going to put a number of throws on each one of them.’’ Head coach Gary Kubiak said, via 9 News in Denver. “And that’s going to have a lot to do with decision-making time to be honest with you.’’
After only eight days of training camp and with no clear front runner, Kubiak’s decision to name a starter partially based on just one preseason game is somewhat puzzling.
This comes on the heels of Kubiak saying that none of his quarterbacks have been very impressive.
Each of the three quarterbacks will be under immense pressure to perform their best when they alternate limited snaps with the first team.
All of this in the first preseason game — a game that rarely helps decide who starts at any position, let alone quarterback.
