Former Atlanta Hawks forward Mike Scott got some great news that will certainly help his quest to return to the NBA. According to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, felony drug charges stemming from a July, 2015 arrest have been dismissed.

“Banks County (Ga.) Superior Judge Currie Mingledorff II granted Scott’s motion to suppress evidence against the forward and his brother, Antonn Scott, largely based upon testimony and evidence that suggests a pattern of racial profiling by law enforcement in the county,” Wojnarowski stated.

Scott has played his entire five-year career with the Hawks, including 18 games during the 2016-17 season. He was traded to the Phoenix Suns in February, but was promptly waived before playing a game.

According to a 2015 report from Chris Vivlamore of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Scott faced up to 25 years in jail.

With the charges out of the way, Scott should be expected to sign somewhere before the onset of the 2017-18 season. As Wojnarowski detailed, “teams have been waiting on a conclusion to the pending case.”

Scott was a second-round pick of Atlanta’s in 2012. His best season came in 2013-14 when he set a career high in games played (80), games started (six), minutes per game (18.5), field goal percentage (47.9), rebounds per game (3.6) and points per game (9.6). He’s also an effective free throw shooter, especially for a big man, with a career 78.6 percent mark from the charity stripe.

Nobody will ever mistake Scott for being a superstar, but there isn’t a team in the league that couldn’t use a guy who can come in and grab late rebounds and make free throws.
