Former NFL wide receiver Louis Murphy made headlines in April when he was arrested on a gun charge at Tampa International Airport. A loaded handgun was found in his luggage, and Murphy faced a felony count of carrying a concealed weapon.
That’s a thing of the past now, as Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports that charge has been dropped.
“Court records show that a letter of release was officially issued Friday, closing the case against Murphy,” Auman wrote. “Rouson said Murphy has attended a gun safety class since the arrest, and he expects a permit for Murphy to legally carry the weapon to be granted shortly.”
Darryl Rouson, Murphy’s attorney, stated his client was “extremely regretful” that no charges were being filed.
“It was an inadvertant mistake, and the state attorney’s office thankfully saw fit to file a nolle prosse,” Rouson said.
Murphy made headlines last year for passing out at a wedding. Upon waking up he found he had somehow found his way into a museum and was locked up inside of it.
He last played in the NFL in 2015 as a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He played in seven seasons, appearing in 88 games and starting 28, catching 162 passes for 2,322 yards and 10 touchdowns.
