Evan Longoria could be out a month, ‘hopes’ it’s just two weeks

The San Francisco Giants placed third baseman Evan Longoria on the 10-day injured list with plantar fasciitis, but he could be out a lot longer than that.

Longoria told reporters Tuesday that he will see a specialist when the Giants return to San Francisco. He “hopes to be back in two weeks,” per Alec Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area, and “doesn’t expect to be gone for more than a month.”

Whether it’s two weeks or a month (or more), the timing of this injury for Longoria is unfortunate. The veteran had been on a tear in recent weeks. Slashing .400/.471/1.067, Longoria had also launched six home runs in just 30 plate appearances during the month of July.

On the season, Longoria is slashing .241/.318/.446 with 13 home runs and 39 RBI.
