Erik Spoelstra has quietly been known about the NBA as one of the best coaches in the league. Now, it’s not so quiet.

According to reports, Spoelstra and the Miami Heat have agreed to and eight-year contract extension that will pay him more than $120 million. Heat Culture indeed.

This deal gives Spoelstra the most money ever committed to a coach, according to the report. He will make less than Gregg Popovich’s $19 million per season and Monty Williams and Steve Kerr, but more overall because of the length of the deal.

A list of the highest-paid coaches in the NBA.

  • Gregg Popovich, San Antonio Spurs, $16 million per season
  • Monty Williams, Detroit Pistons, $13.05 million per season
  • Steve Kerr, Golden State Warriors, $9.5 million per season
  • Erik Spoelstra, Miami Heat, $8.5 million per season
  • Nick Nurse, Philadelphia 76ers, $8 million per season

His teams have won two championships and reached the NBA Finals six times.

Last season’s team was an eighth seed, knocked off top-seeded Milwaukee Bucks in the first round, and eventually lost to the Denver Nuggets in the Finals.

Spoelstra has won 725 games with the Heat since 2008 and has more playoff wins than any active coach other than Popovich.
