Finishing up nine amazing seasons with the San Diego Chargers, safety Eric Weddle departs on a sour note saying that he “probably won’t ever speak to them again”, per Michael Gehlken of The San Diego Union-Tribune.
The three-time Pro Bowler was placed on IR before the Chargers final game against the Denver Broncos. However, Weddle was spotted running sprints on the practice field. He also told the press that he could have played in Week 17.
The Chargers didn’t allow Weddle to travel to Denver for the team’s final game. This came after a $10,000 fine he received after he remained on the field during half-time to watch his daughter perform with the cheerleaders in Week 16.

Weddle, who just turned 31, is set to hit the free agency next March. And with the discord that has suddenly come about between he and the Chargers, he has likely played his last game for the team what drafted him nine years ago.
Speaking about suiting up with another team after his successful run with the Chargers came to a screeching halt, Weddle shared this, via nbcsandiego.com:
“It’s going to be different. But with everything that’s happened the past couple of weeks it’s going to make that transition a bit easier. I think my teammates know that that’s going to happen. The last home game was hard because I still thought there was hope to come back (to the Chargers) but I don’t think that’s a possibility now.“
Weddle also said that it would be great to play for a contending team that could make it to the Super Bowl next year. This is something the Chargers (4-12) fell incredibly short of this season.
Perhaps Weddle will join another AFC West rival team that would have him facing his nemesis Chargers twice each season. Either way, the relationship between the two parties appears to be quite over.
