San Francisco 49ers safety Eric Reid created some waves when he told Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle that three concussions sustained in 2013 and 2014 potentially affected his NFL future.
“Everybody evaluates their own situation as far as playing this game. I’ve evaluated mine and I’ve decided I still want to play.”
However, Reid took to Twitter on Tuesday night and disputed some of Branch’s writing, telling the writer he “twisted” words and the “article was not an accurate portrayal of my words.”
Just to be clear, I NEVER SAID, "I've given some thought to leaving the NFL." @Eric_Branch

Branch has since updated his article, noting he reached out to Reid so he could clarify his comments, but the safety declined the opportunity.
It’s a weird situation, to say the least. Assuming Reid truly didn’t say he considered leaving the NFL, his gripe is understandable. On the other hand, Reid said he’s evaluated his situation, which essentially means he’s thought about leaving the league.
Really, this has turned into a debate of semantics.
The preseason starts on Aug. 9, and it can’t arrive soon enough.
