Ereck Flowers opens Redskins camp as starting left tackle, and fans are justifiably terrified

Evert your eyes, Washington Redskins fans. Your team is opening camp with former first-round bust Ereck Flowers starting at left tackle in place of Trent Wiliams, who is a training camp holdout.

Matthew Paras of The Washington Times shared this horrifying news early on Thursday morning.

Flowers was originally selected No. 9 overall out of Miami by the New York Giants. He quickly became one of the NFL’s worst offensive tackles and was a veritable turnstile on passing downs as defenders easily made their way to Eli Manning.

After finally being cut by the Giants, Flowers was scooped up by former Giants head coach Tom Coughlin, who now heads the Jacksonville Jaguars front office. Thanks to some terribly bad luck on the injury front, the Jags were forced to start Flowers in the second half of the season last year. Again, he was horrible, as was the entire Jaguars offense.

By now, you probably don’t need to see evidence that fans are afraid for the safety of whomever starts under center for the Redskins. We’re providing that evidence anyway. They’re terrified, and justifiably so.

As a concerned citizen, I’m personally begging Washington to do whatever it takes to get Trent Williams back.
