Daniel Jones wowed in his first NFL action Thursday night, opening up the discussion nationally about whether Eli Manning might soon be out of a job.
On Sunday during the team’s first practice since, the veteran responded with what Matt Lombardo of NJ.com called his “strongest practice of training camp.”
According to Lombardo, “Manning made several impressive throws,” that included this fantastic dime to running back Saquon Barkley, who had lined up outside.
Lombardo also wrote that “Manning excelled on passes at every level of the route-tree” en route to finishing the day with the following stats:
- 17-of-22 passing with 3 touchdowns
- 7-on-7 red zone stats: 3-of-5 passing
- 11-on-11 red zone: 3-for-4 with 2 touchdowns
Meanwhile, as Manning excelled, Jones struggled his way through Sunday’s practice.
It sure sounds like Manning is responding to Jones’ play in the same manner we saw from Ben Roethlisberger last summer when the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Mason Rudolph in the third round.
Whether this leads to a strong season from the veteran remains to be seen.
