Sometimes the best way to get started is to start somewhere fresh. At least, that might be what Roby Jarventie is thinking.

The Edmonton Oilers have many decisions to make on players this offseason. On May 5th, 2026, Jarventie just made a decision for the team. Instead of negotiating a new deal as a Restricted Free Agent, he has decided to pursue other opportunities and leave the NHL club.

Roby Jarventie Leaves the Edmonton Oilers Organization

Hockey Club Ambri Piotta announced that they had signed Jarventie early on May 5th. The Switzerland-based team released a statement after Jarventie was one of three signings the team announced.

“Hockey Club Ambrì Piotta is pleased to announce that it has extended the contract of forward Michael Joly until 2028 and has signed forwards Nate Schnarr and Roby Järventie until the end of the 2027/2028 season,” the statement begins. “Roby Järventie, a Finnish forward born in 2002 and drafted in the second round by the Ottawa Senators in 2020, developed his career in the Ilves youth academy, where he made his Liiga debut. He made 58 appearances in the Finnish top division, scoring 27 points.

The statement goes on to say that these signings reflect the identity that they want their team to have.

“These moves are consistent with the club’s strategy for the new blue-and-white era,” they continued. “The sports department has identified players with a clear and recognizable identity, capable of putting the team at the center and playing with a spirit of sacrifice and responsibility. We believe we have chosen suitable profiles to ensure continuity along the path we have undertaken, creating a solid foundation on which to build the future.”

Jarventie’s 2025-26 season was much better than his injury-plagued 2024-25 campaign. In 61 AHL games for the Bakersfield Condors, he recorded 23 goals and 24 assists for 47 points. The forward added two assists in three AHL playoff games.

Jarventie’s one-year, $775,000 contract with the Oilers will officially expire on July 1st, 2026.
