Eagles on QB competition: ‘Sam Bradford is the No. 1, Chase Daniel is the No. 2’

Unlike former Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly, who would not reveal the team’s quarterback depth chart for what seemed like ages, new coach Doug Pederson is addressing the situation head on.

“Sam Bradford is the No. 1. Chase Daniel is the No. 2.” Pederson said, via NFL Media. “And we’re working on the No. 3.”

That would make sense considering the Eagles signed Bradford to a contract that included a boatload of cash after a mediocre first season with the team. In the end, Bradford was retained on a two-year deal worth $36 million.

On the other hand, Daniel, with two career starts under his belt, signed a three-year, $21 million deal with the Eagles on Wednesday.

Though, reports on Wednesday did indicate that the team will allow Daniel every opportunity to earn the starting job in camp and during the summer.

Giving an inexperienced Daniel the opportunity to compete with Bradford makes Kelly’s quarterback competition involving Tim Tebow seem less silly.

With that said, the Houston Texans signing Brock Osweiler to a four-year, $72 million deal on Wednesday pretty much tells us a story of a NFL that’s void of established starters.

Pederson’s comments also suggest that Mark Sanchez isn’t firmly in place as the team’s No. 3 quarterback. In this, there’s a decent chance the veteran could find himself on the trade block here soon.
