LeBron James and Dwyane Wade have a strong friendship that is years in the making, so when Wade talks about James’ future, we should listen.
Speaking about James’ upcoming free agency, Wade shared something quite fascinating during an appearance with Fox Sports Radio’s Chris Mannix and Caron Butler show.
“I don’t think it’s a basketball thing,” Wade said. “I mean obviously he’s shown this year he can get to the Finals no matter what the circumstances are. I don’t really think, for him, the basketball decision of saying, ‘Oh, let me go team up with three All-Stars,’ I think at this point in his life it’s more so of a lifestyle thing of, ‘Where my family is going to be the most comfortable’ or ‘where I’m going be the most happiest at.’ Because basketball-wise, he’s so great he can bring along and take along whomever.”
Based on what James did the past few months in Cleveland, it’s hard to argue against Wade’s point about his old teammate being “so great he can bring along and take along whomever.”
And to Wade’s initial point about “lifestyle,” it’s worth remembering that James is really ramping up his efforts as a media mogul. In fact, HBO just announced a new documentary on Monday, produced by James’ media company, that will explore the exploitative nature of college sports.
All this to say that Los Angeles seems like a prime destination for James, if in fact lifestyle is the most important factor for him. There are plenty of opportunities for King James this summer, however, as he’ll be pursued by pretty much every team that has any chance of contending in the near future.
