Draymond Green laughs off Magic Johnson’s Showtime Lakers comment

Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson said recently that his “Showtime” teams would not only beat the Golden State Warriors, but sweep them. Naturally, Draymond Green, Golden State’s most outspoken player, was asked to comment.

But Draymond didn’t take the bait. Instead, he simply laughed off the comments of his fellow Michigan State alum.

In fact, Green doesn’t believe that there’s any point in comparing team’s across eras.

Draymond couldn’t be more on the money here.

The game has changed so much since 1988, when Magic won his last championship. Heck, it’s changed infinitely over the last decade. It’s still five-on-five and played on an 84-by-50 foot surface with 10-foot hoops. But in many ways, it’s almost a different sport.

Here’s the thing, though. Plenty of players, both old and current, seem to enjoy comparing eras. With virtually no exceptions, these players all feel that the era they played in was the best. So naturally, the best teams of their eras would easily handle the best teams of others.

If you choose to debate it, it’s fine. Just realize that far more often than not, it’s going to be a circular argument.
