It has just been reported by NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport that the Miami Dolphins have placed wide receiver Mike Wallace on the trading block.
News of this comes shortly after the Dolphins acquired wide receiver Kenny Stills in a trade with the New Orleans Saints.
News of this isn’t exactly groundbreaking stuff. Though, it does indicate Miami may in fact be able to get something for the embattled receiver.
Wallace and the Dolphins have been treading on rocky waters since his arrival in Miami two seasons ago. Wallace is due $9.85 million in 2015 as part of a five-year, $60 million contract that takes him through 2017. Due to overall lack of production and arguments with coaches, Wallace has tallied 1,792 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns over his term in Miami.
The reason why Wallace might actually be in play when it comes to a deal is the fact that Miami sent Dannell Ellerbe and his $10 million cap hit to the Saints in the Stills deals. This gives the team the ability to keep Wallace should it see fit, further strengthening its negotiating power in trade talks.
In no team bites on Wallace, they either have the option of gambling with him one more time at his inflated salary or cutting him outright.
