The Miami Dolphins announced Friday that they are pledging $500,000 to local charities to help people in need during the coronavirus pandemic.

The team shared that it is donating “to help support critical needs for elderly and youth in the community.”

The Dolphins also strongly encouraged “everyone to stay home and follow the CDC guidelines” that include no gatherings of more than 10 people to help combat the spread of COVID-19, which has started to take root in a major way across the United States in the past week or so.

The latest information from Johns Hopkins University shows that 14,250 people have tested positive for the coronavirus in the United States. Dr. Anthony Fauci of the National Institute of Health has said recently that the number of positive tests is expected to significantly increase in the days and weeks to come as the nation ramps up mass testing.

With that in mind, the charitable work the Dolphins, along with other teams and athletes, are doing right now is an invaluable resource.
