Report: Dolphins mulling over Colin Kaepernick as ‘potential insurance’

Ed Szczepanski, USA Today Sports

Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill injured his knee during training camp on Thursday. The diagnosis is a “minimum” of hyperextension, and it’s a possible ACL tear.

With Tannehill’s status up in the air, it did not take long before free agent Colin Kaepernick’s name was mentioned as a backup.

It could be only a matter of time before Kap finds employment within the league. The negative here is, it will likely come at the unfortunate expense of an injured starting quarterback. Though, we knew this would be the case all along.

Kaepernick’s name was heavily circulated around Baltimore after Joe Flacco was sidelined with a back injury. But the latest reports suggest that the Ravens are not interested in signing him.

We will have to wait for more information to know the exact severity of Tannehill’s injury. But, if he is to miss significant time, Kap would be a considerable upgrade over current backup, Matt Moore.
