The Los Angeles Dodgers placed right-handed closer Craig Kimbrel on the paternity list on Tuesday.
Per MLB rules, players placed on the paternity list are allowed up to three days of leave.
The 34-year-old Kimbrel is MLB’s active leader with 378 career saves. That total ranks eighth in major league history.
Kimbrel is 0-2 with a 4.00 ERA in 18 appearances in his first season with the Dodgers. He has converted 11 of 12 save opportunities and has struck out 25 batters in 18 innings.
The 13-year-veteran is a eight-time All-Star during a career that includes stints with the Atlanta Braves (2010-14), San Diego Padres (2015), Boston Red Sox (2016-18), Chicago Cubs (2019-21), Chicago White Sox (2021) and the Dodgers.
Kimbrel was acquired from the White Sox prior to the start of the season for outfielder AJ Pollock.
Los Angeles recalled right-hander Phil Bickford from Triple-A Oklahoma City to fill the roster opening.
Bickford, 26, made 17 appearances earlier this season for the Dodgers and had a 3.35 ERA. He has struck out 13 in 15 2/3 innings.
