The Los Angeles Dodgers activated right-handed starter Lance Lynn on Sunday after he was acquired Friday in a trade with the Chicago White Sox.
Lynn, 36, arrived in a deal that included right-hander Joe Kelly in exchange for outfielder Trayce Thompson and a pair of Double-A right-handers, starter Nick Nastrini and reliever Jordan Leasure. Kelly was activated Friday and earned the win in relief vs. the Cincinnati Reds.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has planned for Lynn to make his Dodgers debut Tuesday in a home start against the Oakland Athletics.
Lynn fills the Dodgers’ need for starting pitching after their entire Opening Day rotation went on the injured list at some point in the first half. Left-hander Clayton Kershaw is due back soon from a shoulder injury, but Dustin May (elbow) was lost for the season and Noah Syndergaard (finger) was traded last week to the Cleveland Guardians.
Lynn is 6-9 with a 6.47 ERA in 21 starts this season as he has struggled with consistency, while allowing a major league high 28 home runs. He was roughed up in an outing against the Dodgers on June 13 — five runs (four earned) over five innings — then went seven scoreless innings against the Toronto Blue Jays on July 6 and has given up a combined 16 runs (13 earned) over his past two starts.
In 12 seasons, Lynn is 129-93 with a 3.71 ERA in 330 appearances (306 starts) for the St. Louis Cardinals (2011-17), Minnesota Twins (2018), New York Yankees (2018), Texas Rangers (2019-20) and White Sox.
In a corresponding move, the Dodgers options right-handed pitcher Tyson Miller to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Miller, 28, was acquired by the Dodgers from the Milwaukee Brewers on July 12 and appeared in one game for his new club, allowing two runs in two innings.
Miller appeared in seven games with the Brewers this season, posting a 5.79 ERA with seven strikeouts before being designated for assignment on July 8.
In 14 career appearances (three starts) over three seasons, Miller is 1-2 with a 8.00 ERA and 16 strikeouts for the Chicago Cubs (2020), Texas Rangers (2022), Brewers (2023) and Dodgers.
