Arizona Diamondbacks and Andrew Chafin agree to 1-year, $5.5 million deal

The Arizona Diamondbacks and left-hander Andrew Chafin agreed to terms on a one-year contract with a club option for 2024.

Financial terms were not disclosed by the Diamondbacks, however multiple media outlets reported on Saturday that Chafin would receive $5.5 million to rejoin his former team.

Per reports, the contract includes a $7.25 million club option for 2024 with a $750,000 buyout. Up to $1 million in appearance bonuses is available in 2023.

Chafin, 32, began his major league career with the Diamondbacks in 2014 and has posted a 14-20 record with a 3.23 ERA and 11 saves in 476 appearances (three starts), including stints with the Chicago Cubs (2020-21), Oakland Athletics (2021) and Detroit Tigers (2022).

With the Tigers last season, Chafin was 2-3 with a 2.83 ERA over 64 relief appearances. He had 67 strikeouts in 57 1/3 innings.

Chafin was 10-12 with a 3.68 ERA in 337 career appearances (three starts) during his seven seasons with Arizona. He was selected by the Diamondbacks in the first round (No. 43 overall) of the 2011 draft.
