Detroit Pistons register interest in trading for Philadelphia 76ers star

Now that the Detroit Pistons have hired Monty Williams to the richest head coaching contract in NBA history, it’s time for the organization to put their money to work. At 17-65, the Pistons had the league’s worst record last season. Despite their suffering, Detroit didn’t earn the top pick, slipping to No. 5 instead.

Still, the Pistons are already hopeful their roster can improve from within, knowing Cade Cunningham’s return from a stress fracture that cost him 70 games will provide a big boost. Yet, even with the natural growth from Cunningham, Jaden Ivey, and the rest of the young core, will it be enough to compete in the Eastern Conference?

Maybe not right away. And if the Pistons want to jumpstart the process, one potential solution could be to add veteran pieces with plenty of playoff experience to help coach Williams establish consistency from game to game.

One player who could fit this mold is Philadelphia 76ers forward Tobias Harris, who, according to Keith Pompey of The Inquirer, could be traded. Harris is entering the final year of his contract and is set to earn $39.2 million this season with the 76ers.

Pompey suggests a draft day trade may be unlikely for the 76ers’ forward, but teams such as the Pistons, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Indiana Pacers have all registered interest in Harris. Yet, it should also be noted that the 76ers are not desperate to move the soon-to-be 31-year-old and would reportedly only do a deal that is too good to refuse.

Teams around the NBA have suggested the 76ers are placing too much value on the former first-round pick and are seeking an “outrageous package in return.” While other teams may view Harris as a good fit, the Sixers, with new coach Nick Nurse don’t appear to be in a hurry to make a deal.
