The Detroit Lions had an excellent season in 2024, finishing with a 15-2 record while securing the No. 1 seed in the NFC Playoffs. Yet, once the postseason kicked off, the Lions fell flat, getting blown out 45-31 by the Washington Commanders.

After falling short of their ultimate goal, now Lions general manager Brad Holmes has to head back to the drawing board as he looks to improve Detroit’s roster. One potential solution may have just presented itself.

The Detroit Lions have been re-building their secondary for a number of seasons. Yet, they still ranked 23rd in yards per passing play allowed in 2024, which shows there’s room for improvement.

On Monday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Philadelphia Eagles are releasing six-time Pro Bowl cornerback Darius Slay from the roster and will be designating him as a post-June 1 cap casualty to save even more money on their 2025 payroll.

NBC Sports’ John Clark reports that it’s “always possible” Slay returns to the Eagles at a lower salary, but the 34-year-old former All-Pro also recently expressed an interest in returning to the Lions for what’s expected to be his final season.

Slay left the Lions after the 2019 season after butting heads with head coach Matt Patricia, but now that the former Patriots coach is no longer with Detroit, Slay could circle back to the team that selected him 36th overall in the 2013 NFL Draft.
