The Detroit Lions released linebacker Jamie Collins on Tuesday after failing to find a trade partner for the one-time Pro Bowl player.
The Lions acknowledged last week that Collins was on the trade block.
“He gave what he had, and we felt like it was time to move on. … We’re in a different place,” Campbell said last Thursday.
Collins started the first two games of the season but was inactive in Week 3. He has 10 tackles and a fumble recovery on the season.
Collins turns 32 next month and is in his ninth NFL season.
Collins, a second-round draft pick of the Patriots in 2013, played with New England from 2013-16 and in 2019. He made the Pro Bowl in 2015 and was part of one Super Bowl championship team with the Patriots.
Collins also played for the Cleveland Browns from 2016-18. He signed a three-year, $30 million contract with Detroit in March 2020, and he recorded one sack, one interception, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and 101 tackles in 14 games (all starts) for the Lions last year.

In 112 career NFL games (102 starts), Collins has 25.5 sacks, 11 interceptions, 19 forced fumbles, eight fumble recoveries and 686 tackles.
