The Portland Trail Blazers will reportedly sign All-Star guard Damian Lillard to a four-year, $196 million super-max extension once free agency opens up Sunday evening.
As one of the best shooters in the game, Lillard more than deserves this pay day. However, the details of said extension are absolutely mind blowing.
- 2021-22: $43.75 million
- 2022-23: $47.25 million
- 2023-24: $50.75 million
- 2024-25: $54.25 million
The Blazers will be paying Lillard north of $54 million during his Age-34 season. Talk about a major commitment from the organization.
This is also a representation of NBA’s record revenue having a direct impact on player’ salaries.
Things still need to be worked out as it relates to a new collective bargaining agreement, but the finances in today’s NBA are just ridiculous.
