Despite benching, Ryan Fitzpatrick to remain Jets’ starter

New York Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick was atrocious again Monday night, leading his team to just three points while throwing his 11th interception of the season.

It was so bad for Fitzpatrick in the 28-3 loss to the Arizona Cardinals that the veteran was benched in favor of Geno Smith.

Unfortunately for the Jets, Smith threw an interception and fumbled the ball away in just a half quarter of action to close out the embarrassing loss.

This has Jets head coach Todd Bowles and the rest of the team searching for answers. At least initally, that answer will be a return to the field for Fitzpatrick next week against the Baltimore Ravens.

At 1-5 on the season, New York is pretty much dead in the water. And in reality, Fitzpatrick seemingly remains the Jets’ best hope of surviving this season-long funk. Despite being antsy to play, Smith provides very little hope.

Meanwhile, neither Bryce Petty nor Christian Hackenberg seem prepared to perform at anywhere near the level of a quality starter in the NFL.

It’s an unfortunate situation or the Jets to be in. It’s also a situation the team is going to have to deal with for the remainder of the season.
