DeShone Kizer likens himself to Tom Brady and Cam Newton

If there’s one thing that former Notre Dame quarterback DeShone Kizer doesn’t lack, it’s confidence. The potential first-round pick in this year’s NFL Draft has been among the most divisive prospects heading into the annual event.

Questions continue to be raised about Kizer’s ability to make the transition to the NFL and whether it was a smart decision for him to declare for the 2017 draft. It’s something Irish head coach Brian Kelly has touched on recently.

Despite this, Kizer seems to be prepared to head into the next phase of his career with confidence few other quarterback prospects have shown in the recent past.

“I do have the ability to be the greatest quarterback to ever play,” Kizer said, via USA Today Sports. “Imagine taking Brady’s intellect and Brady’s preparation and putting it on a guy with Cam Newton’s body. Why can’t I be the greatest? The only thing stopping me from it is me. That’s what’s driving me now.”

Now, that’s bold.

While some will question Kizer’s claim, it isn’t necessarily a bad thing that he has confidence in himself to succeed at the next level. Whether this means Kizer is really a combination of Cam Newton and Tom Brady remains to be seen. If that were to come to fruition, he would surely be the best quarterback to play the game. Until then, he will be a wide-eyed rookie once his name is called in Philadelphia some time next week.
