Tennessee Titans coach Brian Callahan drops bombshell about Derrick Henry’s free agency

Derrick Henry: Brian Callahan on RB

Derrick Henry gave a farewell speech to Tennessee Titans fans after the final game of the season, fully expecting to hit free agency and moving to a different team next season.

New Titans coach Brian Callahan might have other ideas.

Callahan, speaking to 102.5 The Game on Friday morning, said he wasn’t giving up on the idea of Henry being back.

“I think a player like Derrick Henry fits into any offense. He’s been a remarkable player, he’s been the face of the franchise here for a long time,” Callahan said. “When you think of the Tennessee Titans, you think of Derrick Henry. He’s earned that. If he is open to a return that fits for us, I’m never going to say no to good players. I know that he’s been an incredible leader in this building as well, which also carries a lot of weight. You can find ways to use every player. There’s no offensive system that would say ‘I don’t like to have Derrick Henry here.’

Henry just played the last year of a four-year, $50 million contract with the Titans. Because he is 30, he is unlikely to get that kind of deal with any other team.

When Callahan says they want a deal that “fits for us,” he’s saying that Henry won’t get that kind of money again. But he did indicate that the door for Henry to stay in Tennessee after all.

Henry recently told the Bussin’ With the Boys podcast that he was looking to play somewhere that gives him the best shot at winning a Super Bowl.
