Denver Broncos defensive lineman Derek Wolfe had to be carted off the practice field Saturday morning after an apparent right leg injury.

According to Nick Kosmider of the Denver Post, Wolfe injured his leg during an 11-on-11 drill and “appeared unable to put any pressure on his right leg as he was helped by trainers from the cart into the team’s facility.”

That’s very bad news for Wolfe, and for the Broncos defense. As one of the main cogs in their defensive line, Wolfe has racked up 100 tackles and 11 sacks in the past two seasons.

Denver’s defense was already worse for wear even before Wolfe’s injury. Nose tackle Billy Winn was lost for the season after he tore an ACL last week. Needless to say, the defense will be in much worse shape if Wolfe’s injury is of the season-ending variety.

Playing in his second year of a four-year extension signed last summer, Wolfe is slated to earn over $7.8 million in 2017.
