While there have been rumors for months that the Denver Broncos could trade top wide receiver Jerry Jeudy, that seems very unlikely now after picking up his fifth-year option and the very high asking price they reportedly have for him.

There was speculation ahead of the 2022 NFL trade deadline that the Denver Broncos could move on from three-year veteran Jerry Jeudy. Yet, the deadline came and went and the former star from Alabama remained on the roster.

Then once the offseason began, new rumblings came out of Denver that Jeudy was again on the trade block. However, a deal never materialized in February or March. Speculation grew in April of him being a candidate to be a part of a trade during the 2023 NFL Draft, but as we enter May, he remains part of the roster.

New head coach Sean Payton and Denver Broncos brass have publicly stated that they don’t plan on moving Jeudy or fellow receiver Cortland Sutton. It might now be time for NFL observers to just listen to the team instead of the rumors.

Denver Broncos record (2022): 5-12, last place in AFC West

On Monday, the organization showed they are invested in the 24-year-old when they picked up the fifth-year option on his rookie contract. He is now signed through 2024 and is set to make $12.98 million in the final year of his deal.

However, if the talk and contract decision are just smoke screens to gain some leverage in trade talks, it still seems highly unlikely a deal gets done. Also on Monday, Sports Illustrated NFL insider Albert Breer revealed that the Denver Broncos received a few calls on their top receivers during day two of the NFL Draft, but talks never got any traction because the current asking price for Jeudy is a first-round pick.

Jeudy is a nice receiver who still has a lot of potential in him, however, that sort of asking price for a player that has never had a 1,000-yard season yet in his career seems like a very steep and unrealistic cost.
