Denver Broncos’ TE Julius Thomas Will be Used More Creatively

Julius Thomas of the Denver Broncos had heads turning in 2014, finishing the season as the third-ranked tight end in the NFL with a total of 788 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. If this wasn’t exciting enough, now the team wants to get more creative with Thomas in 2014.

Thomas had this to say (via Fox Sports).

What I think people will see different in me (this year) is that they will use me a lot more creatively. I think there are a lot of things that our offense wanted to do with me, but you can only learn so much in one year. No matter how much time you have at practice, it never seems to be enough when you’re learning and trying to come into your own.

The 6’5″ tight end, who is starting his fourth season with the Broncos, had a memorable breakout performance in the 2013 NFL season debut game against the Baltimore Ravens, scoring two touchdowns. If you were a Thomas owner last year in fantasy football, he was golden. Fans can only hope whatever “creative” plans the Broncos have in store for Thomas, who is in his final year of his rookie contract, only increases his production.

Thomas elaborated a bit further with these comments.

I learned so much more and I’m so much more comfortable in pass protections and run schemes. I’ve had a chance to hit all of the details in the run game, and I think that will allow us to do more versatile things in the run game.

Indeed, Thomas should certainly see an increase in targets with the absence of Eric Decker on the team.
