Denver Broncos Not Worried About Peyton Manning’s Health

Denver Broncos’ quarterback Peyton Manning certainly hasn’t been playing the same since suffering a thigh injury back on December 14 in San Diego. However, coach John Fox didn’t seem to be worried when he was asked about the recent drop in Manning’s numbers (via ESPN.com).

He’s one of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game. Statistically the top three this year, his performance kind of speaks for itself.

Usually Fox’s comments would be spot-on. However, Manning’s numbers during the last five weeks of of the regular season have declined. Over the course of those past five weeks, Manning ranked 30th in the NFL in red-zone completion percentage and 22nd in red zone total quarterback rating (18). Comparatively, Manning ranked first in both categories during the first 12 weeks of the regular year.

During that five-week period, Manning put up just one 300-plus yard game and had two other outings with less than 200 yards. He also managed to throw just five touchdowns compared to six interceptions in those five games.

Manning, who had a bye week to rest and get that thigh healed, was held out of two practices last week. But the good news is he did practice in full capacity Monday and Wednesday. With a few words of his own to say about his health, Manning shared this.

I feel pretty good physically. Like all players, I’ve battled through some injuries. I think the bye week came at a good time for us, gave some guys a chance to get healthy.

Regardless of what Manning and Fox say, there has to be some concern over his recent performance, which is likely due to the injury that has limited him in practice.

Denver hosts the Indianapolis Colts Sunday evening for a chance to play in the AFC Championship game.
