DeMarcus Lawrence, Cowboys closing in on extension, per report

It’s already known that Dallas Cowboys star defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence plans on holding out until the team signs him to a lucrative extension.

Lawrence, 26, saw the franchise tag placed on him for a second consecutive year back in March. Up until recently, the two sides were said to be far apart on extension negotiations.

Now according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Media, progress is being made between the two sides.

If signed, Lawrence would earn $20.5 million in guaranteed cash this coming season. As Garafolo noted, the Pro Bowler is not looking at the payday Khalil Mack received from the Chicago Bears last summer. That deal called for $141 million over six seasons.

However, something to the tune of $22 million annually over five years could be in the cards here.

A former second-round pick from Boise State, Lawrence has recorded 49 quarterback hits and 25 sacks over the past two seasons.
