DeMarcus Cousins: Draft night tweet about ‘A hot sculpting class’

DeMarcus Cousins

Sacramento Kings big man DeMarcus Cousins used his Twitter account during the NBA Draft in such a way that is seemed obvious he was not pleased with his team’s strategy.

We covered that angle when his message hit social media, and it was hard to argue with him for feeling frustrated by what Sacramento did during the draft.

But not so fast.

Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated spoke with Cousins on Friday about the tweet and got the inside scoop.

“Kings All-Star DeMarcus Cousins told The Undefeated his draft night tweet had nothing to do with the draft. So what was it about? ‘A hot sculpting class,’ Cousins said jokingly.”

Right.

If you believe that, then I’ve got some beachfront property in the interior of Alaska I’d love to show you.

Cousins was certainly frustrated. And he had every right to feel frustrated.

The Kings, with the No. 8 overall pick in the draft, should have actually stuck with Marquese Chriss, who was shipped to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for the 13th and 28th picks in Round 1. Then the Suns selected (for Sacramento) a center Georgios Papagiannis at No. 13 and forward-center Skal Labissiere at No. 28.

Now, Cousins had no idea Labissiere was also coming over when he tweeted out “Lord give me the strength.” Now, with two new big men it seems even more confusing to try and figure out what in the world the Kings were thinking Thursday night.

Perhaps realizing that his social media prayer to the big man above was an avoidable mishap, he is backtracking now. But he shouldn’t.
