Kevin Love to DeMar DeRozan: ‘Love and respect’ for opening door to talk about mental health

Kevin Love should be ready to help the Cavaliers in their third consecutive NBA Finals matchup against the Warriors.

Cleveland Cavaliers forward Kevin Love opened up about a sensitive topic on Tuesday, admitting that he struggles with panic attacks while crediting DeMar DeRozan for inspiring him to step up and talk about it.

DeRozan opened up last week about his own battle with depression.

“It’s one of them things that no matter how indestructible we look like we are, we’re all human at the end of the day,” he said, per the thestar.com. “We all got feelings . . . all of that. Sometimes . . . it gets the best of you, where times everything in the whole world’s on top of you.”

On Wednesday, the Toronto Raptors guard sent out a message, via the team’s Twitter account, saying he is grateful to have inspired Love.

He also sent him a message of support, tweeting, “Much respect.”

Love responded to that message with a tweet of his own.

Clearly, these guys have a tremendous amount of respect for one another. Opening up to talk about stuff that has long been perceived as weakness is not an easy thing to do. Hopefully their actions will help others who are in dark places to speak up and reach out for help.
