Houston Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins made no beef about who the starting quarterback for the team should be. Hopkins has completely endorsed Tom Savage for the role.

“If anybody should be a judge of quarterbacks, I’ve played with the most quarterbacks in NFL history throughout my first four years,” DeAndre Hopkins said after practice here Friday per Dan Graziano of ESPN. “So I put the stamp on Savage, and I think that’s all that needs to be said about that.”

Yes. If any receiver has worked with more than his fair share of quarterbacks, it is Hopkins. He remains one of the best in the league, despite all of the adverse playing conditions he has had to endure.

If the Texans’ brass seriously takes into account Hopkins’ reasoning, it could mean that rookie DeShaun Watson sits on the shelf in 2017.

Savage remains the intended starter to open the season and has been taking all of the first-team reps in training camp, per the report.

Hopkins continued to plead Savage’s case.

“I’ve played with at least 10 quarterbacks,” Hopkins said. “So because of what he does well, and what he can do for this team, I know he can help us win what we want to win. He does everything well. He’s a student of the game, from just being on the bench, watching and learning from other people’s mistakes, seeing what they’ve done wrong. He can put the ball in any place. He has a strong arm. He has a knowledge of this offense. He’s been in this offense his whole career.”

Savage has been with the Texans after being selected in the fourth round in 2014. He has only played in five games, but seems to be developing quite well according to Hopkins’ comments.

If Hopkins gets his wish, this might the first season in his young career that he catches passes from only one quarterback all season. Wouldn’t that be a refreshing change around Houston?
