Former Cleveland Cavaliers general manager David Griffin was in deep talks with the New York Knicks about replacing Phil Jackson. Then he reportedly pulled himself from consideration for the dual role of general manager and president on Sunday.
ESPN’s Marc J. Spears reports Griffin pulled out because “he couldn’t come to agreement on the right role with the franchise, a source told The Undefeated.”
This sounds an awful lot like owner James Dolan wanting to have some say about basketball operations. Though, that’s supposedly something Dolan no longer wants to do.
The Knicks continue to blunder in the dark these days. Whether it is Jackson reportedly laughing his way to the bank over the millions he took to do pretty much nothing positive at all in his few years in charge of whether it’s Dolan throwing one of his former players under the bus, this franchise just cannot do anything right.
Griffin was a catch. Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert made a poor choice to let Dolan — a guy LeBron James loved — hit the open market. The same can be said for the Knicks right now in doing whatever they did to cause Griffin to back out.
It’s going to be fascinating to see what happens going forward.
