Darrelle Revis of the New York Jets has no mercy when it comes to his former teammate and current Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Mark Sanchez.
Speaking with SI.com about his team’s close encounters with glory back in 2009 and 2010 when the Jets lost the AFC Championship, Revis lamented the memory:
“We almost made it, and we didn’t have a quarterback,” he said.
Realizing he’d painted Sanchez in a horrible light, Revis detracted somewhat from his harsh statement.
“Mark was solid. He wasn’t elite.”
It’s worth noting Sanchez was solid, as Revis stated, during most of those two seasons. He was darn good during the postseason, too, throwing nine touchdowns and just three interceptions, including four touchdowns and just one interception in the two championship games.
But Tom Brady he was not—a fact that apparently ranks Revis, who could potentially be a three-time champion if the Jets had featured a franchise passer during those years.
Whether it’s his statements about Brady and Deflategate, his willingness to hold out for a favorable contract or his near-misses with the Jets back at the turn of the decade, Revis is always fascinating. Let’s hope after this SI.com interview that Sanchez feels the same way.
