Dante Fowler pleads no contest in battery case, gets 12 months probation

Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Dante Fowler was charged with battery, criminal mischief and petty theft last year in a parking lot incident last summer.

On Thursday, TMZ Sports reported the 23-year-old pleaded no contest to all three charges. As a result, Fowler, who was facing up to a year in prison, will now be placed on probation for 12 months, serve 75 hours of community service and pay more than $1,000 in fines.

Additionally, TMZ Sports reports Fowler was ordered to stay away from the victim.

The Jaguars invested a No. 3 overall pick on Fowler back in 2015. The Florida product has struggled to live up to the hype that surrounded him coming into the league. He suffered a torn ACL before he ever hit the field as a rookie, and he’s obviously had trouble off the field as well. In addition to the incident here, he’s reportedly been busted for traffic violations 10 times in recent years.

That said, perhaps the young man is turning a corner. He had his best season as a pro in 2017, tallying 21 tackles and eight sacks as a situational pass rusher and sacked Tom Brady twice in the AFC Championship Game this past January.
